The current issue of Southern Weddings magazine featured my brother Kurt and my sister-in-law Jodi's wedding. You know them from Jodi Miller Photography! Anyway, this was the first wedding I ever worked on aside from my own, everything was handmade by myself and Jodi. We made close to a mile of garlands alone to hang in the tent, all paper doily poofs that turned out amazing! We made pie stands, napkins, table runners, signs, fabric flowers for each chair and pulled furniture from our homes. We spent close to a year compiling and planning. It takes a whole year to find the perfect mismatched china for 120 guests! Everything turned out perfectly, the rain held out(mostly) and at the very end of everything the bride and groom left under a double rainbow...God's promise times two! I love it! Pick up a copy before they are off the shelves, the whole magazine is piled full of gorgeous, Southern and handmade weddings! Oh and PS...my sweet little Keira made it into the issue, she's the little one grabbing the quilt:-)...and the amazing photography is by the very talented Stephanie and Isaac of Stephanie Williams Photography

Somehow I have managed to not blog since June! I have had a tough year at blogging, so much going on. I was using this blog as sort of a way to compile the things that inspire me and as a reference to them. I feel like I've had so much happening in my life I don't manage to reference anything. Things are just flying by at an unbelievable speed. I miss having the time to wander around the internet. This is Jack, he's my boy! This is the cutest project I have produced during the last few months;). He's 2 months old now, its time for me to get back to work!

More to come...blog posts that is, not babies:-)....at least not yet!

I've been hard at work compiling things for my etsy shop...I know I know! There still isn't anything listed on there. Give me a couple more weeks please:-). I've been trying very hard to get caught up. My computer has some sort of virus that won't allow me to remove pics from my camera. I have to make Chris download all the pics and then send them to me. Needless to say its cramping my style. Time to move my work onto a Mac...but in the meantime I'm making lots of cute little flowers with handmade peonies in the works! I will post some pics soon, I just got the perfect fabric for them:-).

I finally had some time to make Keira some cute little navy blue linen bloomers. They are quite an inky blue and they are thick and soft. She loves them and everyone who has seen them loves them too. I like the versatility, she can either wear them as shorts or under a dress. I made my own pattern so they are original! I might make her another pair next week:-).

So I am sort of disappointed, by the time I realized Bride's magazine was featuring a photo from our Valentine's shoot they had already started taking them off the stands:(. Does anyone have a copy of the June issue of Bride's, I'll buy it off you! My brother and sister-in-law are the amazing photographers behind Jodi Miller Photography, I'm proud to say. Recently they did some major rebranding to give their packaging, as well as their website, a more hand drawn, handmade kind of feel. They love working with clients who express themselves this way. And! They asked me to create some custome handmade lace flowers to coordinate with the awesome folios my brother created. So here are my humble flowers above with their newly designed packaging! I've been seeking out little details lately as I've been browsing blogs and such. I feel like when I am overwhelmed I look for something really big to make an impression on me and a lot of things slip by me. After this Saturday I will be done with my last major wedding for this year:-). And I am dying to get my etsy shop up and running. Here are few little items that are keeping me inspired-

This deconstructed lamp shade is by Sania Pell via decor8. I've been working on sort of similar strands of garland for this most recent wedding project. Not as random and precious as this, but similar, but what I like most is that she wrapped the wire frame with liberty fabrics.

These cool lanterns with bits of lace and such are a DIY dottie angel put together and was featured on sfgirlbybay. For some reason it reminds me of those little hats British people wear during the Christmas/New Years holidays. Such a fun way to use up scraps!

I discovered this sweet tea party set up on ohdeedoh. I guess those little placemats are hankies. I like the black lace one on the bottom right. I feel like making some table linens now...too bad I have about 50 more handmade flowers to make! Maybe next week!

Last year at this time my husband got a new job, he moved about 2-3 hours away during the week and visited on the weekends. Last November we bought a foreclosure closer to his new job and moved. We never really got settled, never sold our original house and then in April we moved back! So needless to say life has been crazy! Also, I worked on a wedding, made a wedding dress, started decos for another wedding, and I am working on a pile of other projects. One of which is our bedroom. Chris and I converted our old office into our bedroom. It gives us much less space as a bedroom but our previous bedroom is giving us a whole lot more office space. Can't complain. So I've been drooling over ideas for the room. I think it looks cute as it is now(pics to come as soon as I charge my batteries), but I am missing a few pieces. Like a bed-

Forgive my awful Blackberry photo above! Here is a little glimpse of what I'm working on for this weekend...I've got about 140 more flowers to go, not including lace flowers as well, which take way longer. Today I'm working on table numbers! I have to hand draw them and then hand paint them. After a week of being unbelievably sick I am anxious to knock this stuff out! After April 2 I'm taking the rest of April off! I will have time to work on some creative projects and breathe a little! I can't wait to share what I work on for fun!

My old standby- Anthropologie...one of the many reasons I love this company is they do styling right! I am always so inspired by the stuff they put together. I have to say the objects they find, make, sell, are a little easy to style because they look great on their own. But then they take it to a whole different level! This makes me want to throw a dinner party, it makes me wish I had things growing in my garden already, and it makes me want to style more tables:-).

I live in Virginia and last Friday we had the warmest day of the year so far, 80 degrees! I had every window I could pry open, open. I had the back door open and I had a giant rush of spring cleaning. I finally tackled my bedroom, I hung some curtains(finally), I swept it out and dealt with the piles of junk that accumulated there all winter long. We moved into this house in November and between the holidays and all the things that went wrong things are not very organized around here. So its nice to have my bedroom cleaned. Chris came home and said, "now we need to buy some paint!" I love that man...he knows just what I need to hear after making so much progress! Haha...

Anyway, I got some mail from our other house and a brand new West Elm catalog...I love the things above. I love the neo baroque plates, the baskets for more organizing, the pillows to put out on our back porch, and little votives to light it up. I want to put a couch or love seat back there and spend the warm evenings out there with Chris or curled up with a good book! I am so excited for spring! (all items are West Elm!)

So, I realize I've been gone for over a month. I took some time off. I mean I'm still working on projects, lots of them, but I needed a break from sharing all the things I've been dealing with. I think I'm ready to share a little bit. First of all, I've been working on that cute little baby! This will be my second and I'm very excited! I'm due in September and I will be looking forward to taking a little creative break as soon as the baby comes.

Anyway, I had all kinds of things I was so excited to share, like getting featured in a magazine for the very first time! But I don't even want to share it because due to an unfortunate person I was not recognized for my work! I have to say I felt really betrayed and disappointed, I can't believe there are people who want to take advantage of a person like me! I did the work for free...I do lots of work for free. Maybe you don't know that, its true! I'm not all about being rich and famous, I genuinely just like working with other creative people and if I make a couple bucks at it great, if not, oh well, I've got something extra to stuff in my portfolio.

So when I am completely lied to and then subsequently ignored and written off I tend to feel a little disappointment. I haven't wanted to work on anything. But yesterday I decided I'm not going to let the negativity get me down. I have enjoyed everything I've worked on and I would like more opportunities to get better at what I am doing. If people want to live their lives taking and never giving that's on them. I don't live that way.

So what is ahead for me? I am finishing up a dress, hair piece and bouquet for a little shoot on Tuesday! I can't wait to finish, I've been dragging my feet. I hope to be able to share it soon! I also have 3 upcoming weddings, one in 2 weeks, one in May and then one in June. In August I have a workshop to style and then a baby in September! In between all that I am gonna get my etsy store up and running and work on my house and some other little projects. I can't wait to share all that with you and not all the drama! More to come...I promise!

This is an image from a Valentine's shoot we did recently. We as in Me, Jodi Miller Photography, Josh Gooden Cinematography, Sweet Lavender Bake Shoppe, and Bill Main! That's a whole lot of vendors! We had a fantastically cold time...it was 23 degrees and windy! An enormous amount of credit goes to our wonderfully patient models and the stars of our show Elizabeth "Bee" Bowman and Patrick Lincoln. I can't wait to share more. It will be published on Valentine's Day on Green Wedding Shoes. This was the first time I got to work with my good friend Christina...I can't wait to work on more projects with her and her talented husband Bill. And it was also the first time I got to work with Josh Gooden! We have another project coming up that I cannot wait to share...keep your eyes peeled, it'll be good!

This picture came from Martha Stewart...I've been working on my little projects for etsy and I seem to be making a lot that is black and pink. I love the contrast of a color that can be sort of harsh with a color that is perceived as sweet and precious. Its a stunning combination and I don't think it gets old. I will list some things on etsy very very soon! I've been sort of dealing with a bunch of crazy things at once.

She makes the most amazing treats! She and I are a lot alike. I think this past year we both decided(separately) it was time to just take the plunge and start our own little businesses. the good, the bad, the ugly

Here are some photos of the new house. This is like a sneak peek more than anything. I have so much work to do that I am afraid to show all the problems with this house until I make some improvements. I do love a fixer-upper...but this one needs lots of fixin'!

I got some of my curtains up and installed my urban outfitters tie-backs...I love them!

The living room above is now a grayish beige, much more calming than the fluorescent red when we moved in!

We installed a shelf that wouldn't hold, it busted right out of the wall! The plaster in this house has been awfully trying, to say the least!

Ok, take a closer look at those bricks...they are real bricks that had been painted over and then repainted to look like bricks....ahhhhhhhh....my worst nightmare! Not to mention the other atrocities going on in the picture(gas hose, rusting fake brick insert, gobs of yucky old cat hair, the porcelain plate with a country scene painted in the center). I am in the process of painting this over, can't wait to show you the new and improved "after" shot!

Oh yes, it gets worse, the linoleum is all over my kitchen and it is gross! I could wash it all day, and have(!), and it still is awful.

Some grimy creature scurried up the wall...many many times.

No words are needed when describing the bathroom:-(. I will say, however, it has tremendous potential! I will be on this project in a flash, but it will take me a while! Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it!

Today on designsponge, there was a "simply color" post featuring a chair(above #2). It just so happens on my excursion out this past weekend to some flea markets near our new town I found the very same chair. I told Chris they typically go for about $250 (the one above is priced at 248). Well, Chris bought the chair for me, for 10 bucks! Not too shabby...although mine isn't a crisp white covered one, its more like orange tweed, but that is easily remedied! Imagine my delight in seeing this post though this morning...I had to share it with Chris:-).

ikea excursion

On a whim yesterday, Chris and I headed to Ikea to find a cheap bed. Well, the one we decided on will have to wait as we had no room in the car to get it home. We did however pick up a couple items that were needed for this new house we are in.

This lamp above is something I've wanted for a while now. I am probably going to get another one for Chris' side of the bed...but this one is currently on a little table next to the couch! Its even better in person!
The chandelier above we got for the new bathroom. I wanted sort of a modern romantic bathroom this time around, especially since we now have a claw foot tub! The bathroom is in horrible shape...pictures will come soon as I am eager to start and finish that project!

I didn't get the honeycomb mirrors above, but how cool are they? I'd love to put these on an entire wall in the bathroom but its not going to happen...has anyone bought these? I'd love to see what someone does with them!

Www.decor8blog.com is on my daily routine of blog reading and she had a pile of pictures up this morning that were super sute. Check them out if you haven't already. Anyway, I saw this one and I kept coming back to it. There are a lot of different colors going on and different frame finishes and sweet little plants...I can't put my finger on what I like so much, I guess it just seems very fresh and perky! I found a five dollar old yucky lamp at the thrift store a few weeks ago and wanted to make it over. It has a really nice shape but it was brassy and dated. I brought it home and Chris cringed and promptly dumped it down in the basement. On a very overcast and rainy day I decided to spray paint it an ivory color...I know, kind of boring! But I may make a wild shade for it later or repaint it, but in the meantime it looks pretty darn better! :-)

This is a pile of stuff I was putting together to see if it would work for the next house, so it is sort of styled but not how it will be when I decorate...just wanted to show everyone what 3 dollars worth of paint will do for a 5 dollar lamp!

Eight bucks ain't so bad for a new lamp!

Saturday is the big day- we move into our new home! I am completely overwhelmed, not necessarily by all the boxes lurking around here, but the limitless possibilities I keep running across. I find things I forgot were in plain sight! Just when I planned things completely, I have already changed my mind! Shhh...don't tell Chris:-). I can't wait to get unpacked...but first I'll be painting a little on Friday afternoon and then hopefully I can upload pictures frequently to share my progress. I finally cleaned all 800 pictures off my camera, so I think these posts might pick up a bit soon! Wish me luck!

I keep my catalogues for inspiration...this image below is from West Elm's fall catalogue. I love the soot/ash gray walls, bronze lamp, bright yellow papery flowers contrasting with the crisp pops of white...well done!

The tailored furniture and the cozy textures give this room a modern feel that isn't cold and empty...I like when modern is accessible!

As I was browsing through pictures on my hard drive this evening the realization of moving has finally set in. There is nothing to distract me as the date rapidly approaches. We close on November 12th! This is exciting and sort of difficult for me. I've loved our first home and I have lots of great memories tied to it. I also made it how I wanted it, and the next house needs a lot of work for it to even closely resemble "home." I have a pile of inspiration for the next place and much more room to really try a lot of things. Below are some of those ideas that are now jumping around in my head!

Love the shelf...I have something sort of similar...like the old fan perched on top...my old fan will work perfectly on my shelf!

Gosh, navy blue is going in somewhere, even if its the guest bedroom/library! I like the pops of color...its not too cheerful though...which I like!

I appreciate modern sensibility paired with plenty of vintage and antiques.

The colors of this shirt, paired with navy blue? yes, please!

Teal for the back stairway to the kitchen...I'm thinking something really grand and bohemian for those dingy stairs!

Apparently we will have exposed brick in the kitchen, which I am excited about, but I also love this palette and the romantic furnishings in the bedroom...

Ok, I still need a dash of masculine, otherwise Chris might go crazy...this is how I envision it:-)

I am so in love with so many wallpapers, yet the price attached to them is sort of staggering to me. I suppose if I weren't a total cheapskate and I wasn't moving into a house with very large rooms, wallpaper could be an option...I tired myself out with the last mural I painted...perhaps I should attach a picture on the blog at some point! So I was thinking something a tad more effortless...

October 15 was the day! My brother, Kurt Baier, and Jodi Miller(of Jodi Miller Photography) got married, finally! These last few months were so hectic and piled high with wedding decorations and preparations. I have never been so busy in all my life. I literally stayed up until 3am every night the last 3 weeks in order to get everything finished in time. Keira was up dutifully at about 9am! And she also decided naps weren't her thing the last couple weeks before the big day. I went nuts! I didn't sleep the night before. I kept working up until 15 minutes before the bride walked down the aisle! I had to slip into a port-a-potty to get ready! Needless to say I am exhausted!

I took a week's vacation in Rodanthe, NC and just returned yesterday. I've missed working on non-wedding things and blogging. Hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things soon! We also close on our new home on November 12! So there will be some moving that weekend, but then lots of new home decorating posts after that! I wish i could show you all photos of the things I made for the wedding, but there are some surprises in the works! Check back frequently, because as soon as I can share the photos, I will!

I've been furiously working on all the decorations for my brother(Kurt) and Jodi Miller's wedding. Every once in a while, when I take a break from that, I browse the internet in search of some cute items for our next home. My husband sent in the paperwork for approval on a second home loan...yikes! We are still trying to sell the home we are in, but we found a home for a steal fairly close to where Chris works so we are literally minutes away from making an offer. It is sort of exciting thinking about the next place and making it our home. I've enjoyed the home we have had and making it unique and fixing it up. Its sort of sad to think we put so much effort into it and will most likely not get back what we have put into it, people are just not buying homes right now! But on the other hand, I've missed being with Chris daily and well this home that we are looking at has at least 10 foot ceilings! Haha...it also needs major work in the bathrooms and kitchen...oh boy.

As I was browsing Anthropologie the other day I came across this door knocker...I love it! Maybe if we get this next house we can spring a few extra bucks towards this thing:-). Anthropologie has figured out how to make me broke!

Here is a little hint at my new website in the works. I am hoping my hubby has it done this weekend. I took a snippet of visuals from my site and printed them on paper. I love little details that pop out later and tie everything together! I can't wait to be able to share my new website...

Jodi Miller of www.jodimillerphotography.com came over this evening to do a mini photo shoot with me. She normally comes once a week and we get together to sew and work on her wedding details and the boys drink fancy homemade beer and hang out in the living room(a library might be needed in the next house!). Anyway, after a discussion a week ago we decided that to keep ourselves extra sharp with the creativity we would try to fit in a little shoot every week on top of dinner and sewing!!! Yes, its a lot, but its soooo much fun!

Here is a little peek at what we did. These are my photos, Jodi's will be much better. I didn't want to give away too much, but here is a taste. I made the gray flower and curtain above(the navy one is a silk flower. And below is an "L" for me:-)...more to come!

I am wondering if I am pregnant again, sometimes all I want to do is eat! I baked some delicious blueberry muffins (above). And some cabbage rolls below. I make them with jasmine rice, lentils and cottage cheese, a little pasta sauce and fresh parmesan cheese on top. Bake for a half hour and try not to eat them all!

Long time no type...I've been VERY busy on a number of different projects. Mainly getting our house in shape to sell. I am not looking forward to the prospect of moving as I LOVE my home and we will be renting for close to a year once our house sells. Sigh.

In the meantime, Jodi and I have been sewing napkins for her October wedding and preparing for another table setting shoot. You may remember the one below from a couple months back. We will expand on these ideas and also leave a little to the imagination as we don't want to give away all the details just yet! (www.jodimillerphotography.com)

I have also been working with a Victorian theme in some of my own artwork. I will be doing a series of prints and posters with Victorian/Folk/Nature flair. I am having fun breaking out my watercolors and pencils again. We'll see how that project turns out!

Another project I have been working on is our California vacation itinerary. We will be flying into LA, meeting up with some spectacular friends and then spending a few days in San Francisco and then a few days in San Diego, back to LA and then back home. I have been more interested in cameras after getting a mini lesson from Jodi Miller and am planning an excursion to the Camera Obscura in San Fran!

Below is an ancient map of North Carolina. The other day I had a brilliant idea to make a book of treasure maps for my little daughter. It will be a few years before she can enjoy this, but at this rate it may take me a few years to compile and plan. I have come up with a book with different clues and different locations(that we frequent as a family), to make easily adaptable maps. The maps will lead to treasures that I hide depending on when and where the map may lead. Its a lot of work but I would have died and gone to heaven if I had something like this when I was growing up!

My new found love of film has brought me back to some originals. This is a daguerreotype from Mr. Daguerre himself. This has inspired so many ideas for my own artwork...I had to share, this one is a street in Paris...

Below is an old school circus poster. I believe from 1916...my posters will be splattered with this as inspiration...more coming soon!

I like the mini shutters too. I tried to find some to fit my bathroom window with no luck. Anyway, maybe the next house we move to might have a perfect spot for some sweet yellow curtains like these.

I went to the famer's market with my Mom today and found this awesome old trunk. It even has the original tray inside. Its very big too. It was 70 dollars but the lady said she'd give it to me for 60...I didn't realize haggling was an option! Maybe I should have gotten her down to 50! I'm not worried about it, it was a steal either way:-).

I can't wait to put some cool junk in it!

Every once in a while I like to arrange things and rearrange things. I move items around the house. That way they never get old and they are fresh and fun in a new space. Above is the green old dresser I got a while back for 30 bucks or so, maybe 50, I don't remember. It was a bargain anyway, as it has 8 drawers and plenty of room. I held off painting it but I really like the green right now. I compiled some yellows, oranges, creams and bronzes along with some pops of white to make a 1930's spring/summery look.

I love pairing old and new, shiny and scuffed. The jewelry box was hand carved for me by my sweet grandfather and it says "Lynn" on the front. The canvas was 3 bucks at Big Lots and I decoupaged the butterfly drawing from a calender of mine...I love cheap and easy!

The lamp was 2 dollars from Goodwill, the lamp shade was 17 dollars from Walmart. The little bird was half price at Michael's (2.50 I think) a couple months ago. The flowers are fake, but I love them and the soda bottle is Fentemans...I should get a link to them...yummy stuff! Go look around your house and rearrange something, its a lot of fun!

I opened a can of coconut milk to make sticky rice with mango when I realized my jasmine rice had gone bad. Ugh. Thank goodness for stale bread and a piece of chocolate, otherwise I could not have done much with my yummy ingredient. Above is Spiced Rum and Coconut Bread Pudding with Dark Chocolate. I made it up but man is it good! Its very easy, just follow the instructions below:

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees and grease glass baking dish(8"x8")
3 slices of bread torn into pieces(place in the greased dish)
break one square of Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate into tiny pieces and spread evenly over bread
in a separate bowl combine-
1 beaten egg
1 cup of milk(whole milk is extra yummy)
2 Tbsp coconut milk(I prefer Thai Kitchen Brand because its smooth and thick)
2 Tbsp Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum or equivalent
2 Tbsp applesauce
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup sugar(brown sugar for extra richness)
pour mixture over the bread and chocolate and pop in the oven for approx. 45 min.
To make a delicious topping for it combine 1 tsp of sugar with 4 heaping teaspoons of coconut milk and chill. This bread pudding is excellent warm out of the oven or chilled in the fridge! Spoon topping over the pudding before serving, enjoy!

Sewing table I found for $6 at Goodwill...

I took the old brass knobs off and sanded some scratches...the brass knobs I'll keep for another project.

I like the dark brown but it was beyond beat up on the legs...so navy it is! Love navy...

The navy blue in reality is a bit darker...my camera ain't fancy!

As you can see, the legs need another coat of paint. The pink Anthro knobs are great. Can you believe it, Chris picked those out! I love that he isn't afraid of pinks and purples:-).

Ok, this pics are not sized adequately, what's new? Anyway, the following is from Urban Outfitters, I've had my eye set on it for a while now. I really love navy blue, its even better that its velvet! Price is a tad hefty($550)...

I love Ikats, not a huge fan of the lines of this chair but the fabric is great. Maybe Calico Corners has something affordable in stock. A yard or two would do the trick! (Urban Outfitters)

Thomas Paul has a collection of plates with a nautical theme and a lovely hue! Anthro has some nautical plates as well...the hubby likes these, maybe he can be persuaded:-)...

My new entryway table will be posted just as soon as I can slap on another coat of paint, the humidity does me no favors!

So, lately nothing seems to be working for me. That extends to my blog as well, unfortunately. I am currently working on a number of projects and I am really excited about sharing pics and even some tutorials, I just have to get it together! My hubby is graciously working on a blog/website for me. It'll still be sunshowers and rainshine one way or another. I'll keep you posted!

In the meantime, I wanted to show you guys this picture of Carrie's living room from the latest installment of Sex and the City. I am probably overly obsessed with dark/navy blue. The couch is great! I want something similar for the next place we move to. Since I am super cheap and very impatient I bought a 6 dollar sewing stand to paint navy and I bought some cute knobs from Anthro for it. Coming soon, I promise!

I saw this pic on www.egreenitems.com, its cute right? Today I have a full plate! I have apile of packing AND cleaning to do. A little more than spring-cleaning must occur since we will be showing the house before long. I feel like it is terribly musty in here. Partly from all the rain I am sure, I need an adequate air-out!

My list to freshen up includes the following:

-wash the dog!

-scrub the floors

-vacuum out the couch

-wash some windows

-consolidate and go through all the papers, mail, etc around the house

-clean out all closets and reorganize

-clean out under crib, beds, furniture

-clean the fridge and scrub it out

-organize the junk on both porches so that they can be opened up and used

This weekend my husband and I are tackling the basement! We are going to have it professionally cleaned as we do get water in it from time to time and we have a stinky little kitty who sleeps down there. We will also have our vents cleaned and ducts cleaned up. That should help! Off I go to make some progress:)...wish me luck!

So here is a little teaser from the photo shoot I helped with last Friday. I was going to post my own photos of my inspiration but Jodi's photos are just so much more appealing. They are definitely worth the wait.

Jodi (from Jodi Miller Photography) asked me to help style some shoots and this is sort of the inspiration for the whole theme. Bride Heather totally cooperated with us coming up with an idea and seeing it to completion. We had no idea what style she was going for or what kind of dress she had. It was just a lot of flexibility on her part and a whole lot of nervous excitement on our part. All in all it turned out better than I even thought. However, Jodi and Kurt have just the right touch and a great eye, and all their photos turn out magical! Enjoy for now. I'll post more when Jodi does! It seems like I always have an excuse for not posting all the time. There is so much I want to post and yet I haven't been able to find the time! My Mom went through and is now recovering from major surgery and I am recovering from my own craziness. Yesterday, my soon to be sister-in-law, Jodi Miller (of Jodi Miller Photography), asked me to help her style a shoot. Its tomorrow and I have just about everything assembled. I can't wait to post some pictures of it. Maybe I'll post a little inspiration a little later.

In the meantime, look at these cool treehouses. Gosh, sometimes I wish I were a kid again and had a really cool fort. That was one of my favorite things growing up. Since we HAVE to move I am trying to make things exciting for myself. I have never tackled wallpaper before. I remember, when I was little, my Dad hanging it in the kitchen and there was a lot of huffing and puffing and mild expletives going on in there. Since then, according to other design sources, wallpaper seems like the greatest thing. Not only is it supposedly easier to hang its also much better looking!

I am finally finished with my classes for this semester! Things are up in the air for the fall semester as I have agreed yet again to move. Every other week we are like "lets do it, no wait."

I am really not looking forward to packing up and moving, I love living in beautiful, historic Staunton, VA. Its just that I hate being apart from Chris, he can't stand it either. I'd like to have more babies so moving now as opposed to later would be ideal. Us living apart is a huge expense that could be sent towards the abyss of debt we are trying to pay down. So it makes sense. I just hate that I think I found the home I want and we are no where near listing ours. I better get busy! In the meantime, LOOK at this flippin' rug! I love it. First things first, all of these gorgeous photos were taken by the amazing Jodi Miller and Kurt Baier of www.jodimillerphotography.com. Kurt is my brother and is holding my little Keira below, Jodi is his wonderful fiance. They are the ones I have been collecting china for their wedding. They came over last week to set up a mock table setting.

My kitchen table looked nice in my backyard, its good I mowed a few hours before!

Old books, handmade lace flowers, mason jars, silverware, china, brass candlesticks, burlap...

The lilacs were droopy but smelled fantastic. These flowers are not an accurate representation of what will be used for the wedding, they were free though, and cut from the garden!

I made the napkin rings out of twine and vintage earrings from my mother-in-law, she had great taste! I made the napkins out of a sweet cotton print I had laying around.

I can't wait to do another one of these with the appropriate flowers and on a larger table!

In my quest to locate some art for all the empty frames in my house I came across Daniel Egneus. He is on blogspot as http://danielegneus.blogspot.com and also the web at www.danielegneus.com. I love his use of watercolors and ink. The unfinished quality too is something I really feel, as I rarely finish projects I am working on! Long Time No Blog

I am sorry for not updating this thing in a while. My hubby finally moved up to his new place and started his new job and I am finishing up my classes for this semester. I feel really out of the loop after going back to school after 6 years. Studying for finals is much different this time around. Especially since I have a little one who likes to get into everything I am working on!

So hopefully I am back. I also fixed the comments on this thing. Apparently some of you wanted to comment and it was not working. Hopefully there won't be any more issues with that.

The image above was taken by Marissa Nicole DeMott. Its the wedding cake I made for my father-in-law and his new bride! Not bad for a first cake, but I definitely need to improve! So much fun! It was a vanilla/almond cake with layers of homemade lemon curd on two of the tiers and homemade strawberry jam in the middle tier. It was covered in buttercream icing and topped off with fondant, fondant roses made by me and the hubby, and lace. It took a total of 8 and a half hours to make. Now I know why wedding cakes are so expensive!

First of all I apologize for the picture quality. This is the desk I found up near my husband's new townhouse. I had his friend snag it for me. Its sort of hideous right now. I like the yellow, but not that particular hue. The gold lines around it are gross and brownish and it generally needs to be scrubbed. Initially, since I had only seen this thing from a distance I thought I would have to replace the hardware, but it turns out the hardware is really spectacular. I will go out today and look at some paint choices. I kind of want to be bold but I don't want that to limit my placement of this thing.

I love that it fits in the alcove in my bedroom, I love to write before I go to sleep, but I may end up putting this in another room if we *move.* That's right, we might be moving to be closer to Chris' job, so we can save about 1000 bucks a month on his rent and to not be so far apart during the week. Not too thrilled about moving since the closer we get to his new job the more expensive real estate gets. I love how much house we got for so little. Well, no more updates to the walls for me for a while, only on accessories. I'll post more on this desk later!

Every month when my Elle Decor magazine arrives in the mail, I flip through excitedly just looking at the pictures. I save the articles and a more thorough inspection later when I have time. I do have a one year old afterall! Well, weeks later this is what I have discovered. Gold mirrors, gold frames, gold chairs...I've been on a gold kick for a while now, just haven't really incorporated it just yet. Also, dark walls, pops of yellow, vibrant flowers, eclectic art. I love seeing how the pros do it before I settle on a way to do it myself! I love the rug in the bottom picture as well. It sort of reminds me of an Anthropologie rug I probably won't be able to afford...its nice to dream about it though.

Ok, so first photo(both are from Apartment Therapy btw), I love how natural, modern and masculine this space is. I need to incorporate some of that feel into the house.

The photo above is ok I guess, not exactly my style but what got my attention is the chandelier hanging near the floor. I'd totally do that if I didn't have a wild monkey child getting into everything. Maybe I'll do that when I'm old and gray and my grandchildren will say, "Grandma finally lost it!" Its so cool, whatever...

So I had a full day of exploring Anthropologie's website again. These are images I keep coming back to, partly because I am redoing our bedroom and partly because they are super cool. The bed actually looks cool pushed almost against that wall. We don't have tall ceilings in our upstairs and we don't have enormous decorative windows, but I see some ideas I want to steal!

The bedding is soft and amazing looking. I have seen it in the store. I just don't want to pay full retail for it. I am not sure I have the patience to make my own version of it either. What a predicament!

So this is the color teal that I wanted our hallway to be. I have wanted that since I was about 17 years old and Anthropologie has gone and done it for a super cool knob display! Oh well, I am actually enjoying the flat khaki color we found on the mis-tint pile. But it made my heart flutter a bit. The bathroom and the livingroom are both way watered down verions of a teal or turquoise so I've had my fix.

The reason I am looking at knobs again is not for our dresser, just yet, but a desk! That's right a free desk I saw outside of my husband's new townhouse...I must explain, he is working far away now, but he still lives with us too:-). Anyway, his best friend picked it up for me. I wish I had a picture of it. Its coming home Sunday so you can see it after that, and then I'll have to pick a color to paint it and find some cute knobs:-). I'm so excited!

Since my art collection right now is minimal, I have substituted thrift store and Walmart frames to get an idea of how it'll all look when I get my act together. I like it. Our garden went from this overgrown nightmare to the picture below, being tilled by Chris. We later built in beds and a little fence to keep the wild dog out:-)....pictures will be posted soon of the final result!

We kept the roses and the little clump of tulips. I can't wait to plant my 200 hundred plants!

These are my beans growing on twine in my dining room windows. In 3 weeks they went from seeds to about 15 inches long. I am very excited about getting these things planted in my garden, its just too early still.

I cleaned and organized the back porch, organized the dining room, cleaned the kitchen, had Chris hang the shelves in the dining room, organized Keira's clothes, put up stickers in her room, and generally just cleaned and organized the house. I have made a lot of progress and I still have a ways to go. I am just glad I am not procrastinating, I have 10 days left to get it all in shape!

I have 2 weeks until Keira's first birthday party and too many projects to complete before then. There is the garden, the back porch, the side porch, the deck, my bedroom, her bedroom, the diningroom, the office and the upstairs bathroom. I feel sort of overwhelmed. I am not sure if I can accomplish all that. I desperately want to though, it would make this summer a lot easier to get those things done sooner rather than later. Keira is down to one nap as well, so there is less time for me to get that stuff done. I will get it done! That is my new attitude, and I'll just have to post my results! That'll keep me accountable!

In the meantime I wish I were here...near a stream in the sunshine...
